Question Which way to turn Actuator Rod

to tighten up wastegate disc.

Clockwise or anti-clockwise? Must have given it loads of turns one way and then the other but no joy.

Also how tight is tight?

Thanks.

Clockwise or anti-clockwise depends on which way you are looking at it

Shortening the rod will increase the pre-load on the WG penny which is what you want.

LOL..looking at the wastegate end...presumably turning it clockwise should tighten it and thus tighten the wastgate disc?

It doesn't really matter, back the lock nut off and then rotate the clevis so that it moves toward the lock nut, this will shorten it.

Do you mean the adjustable nut like on TD04....is not the same on td05...

unless I've just totally misunderstood?

My car uses a TDO5.
AndrewC instructions are quite clear, plus the above procedure should work on a TD04 as I got one in my garage. Has the same adjustable rod with lock nut & clevis.

Default how tight is tight

I closed the wg by holding the arm/pin by hand. Then I pull the actuator rod slighty out so the clevis hole fits over the wg pin. Put the 'c' clip back on and test drive. My maxium boost reads 15.5psi on the gauge & thats what it should be on my car. (mapped)

i cant see who that would tighten it. Dont you need to screw/turn the actuator rod into the acuator until you get a tight fit on wastgate when re-fitted?

Shortening the length of the rod cause more pre-tension to be applied and hence holds the wastgate shut tighter.
Therefore more boost is required to push the wastegate open.

you don't turn the rod at all, just the bit on the end which is secured with the lock-nut.
undo the lock-nut and lossen it by 2 turns. Pop the circlip off the wastgate and pull the actuator rod off. Then adjust the end of the rod until it hits the loosened lock nut. knick the lock nut up tight then fit back onto wastegate and re-fit circlip.

If you have a VF turbo you may not have an adjustment available, I know a VF28 doesn't.

The TD05 doesnt have adjustment on it like TD04 does.

The TD05 on my old MY94 did, as I used an FCD and Actuator adjustment to lift the boost.
