Default Best value for money turbo unit?

Althought it's still boosting fine the turbo on my sti v5 is getting pretty noisey. With that in mind I am looking for your opinions on what the best replacement would be.

I'm not going for mega power in the short term but would like one capable of taking the car to 400bhp.

So, taking factors such as reliability, lag (or the lack thereof), but most of all cost what would you recommend and roughly how much can I expect it to set me back?

Any advice appreciated.

TD05/06 20G Seems to be the bargain big power turbo. Hard to find one at the moment and then you need it converting. Check with Andy F or Mark from Lateral.

A couple of VF39s have been for sale for good money also.

Ckeck out the MRT website for info regarding the VF range

TD05/06-20G is now available new for under £1k (just!) and is a bolt on fitting to 97 onwards, or with addition of a Samco intake bend on the earlier cars.

If your on a budget go for a TD05FE although they are still tricky to get hold of these days they are still out there.May not see you to 400 bhp tho but wont be far off with supporting mods.Im picking up a couple of TD05s on monday so they are about.Just need to convert to front entry

Where can I source a VF39 and what's a good price ? Twin scroll sounds good to me ..

Will one of those be a straight fit to an STI5 and what is the VF39 capable of delivering ... (I gather that the VF28 runs out of puff at about 350 ish). Probably go for a 2.5lt conv next year .. so I am planning ahead (a bit).

Twin scroll is going to need different uppipe and probably headers, I'd guess.

And also sump if you fit the factory headers but VF39 is not a twin scroll in any case.
