Is my knock link broke?
is my knock link broke? I have just fitted one to my my99. i have fitted to the passenger side of my engine. i have removed the bolt with the bracket on, with the little hose attatched and put the sensor in place. i have tapped the engine and the leds go up to the red one and back down. so i put the i/c back on and started the engine, the first green light comes on very faint at first then flashes once then goes back to being faint again. i toke the car for a drive and no movment from knock link. i have turned the sensitivity switch anti and clockwise and still the same.is this right?
cheers

Yes this is normal If the LEDs light up when you tap with spanner then your KL is fine
1 or 2 green is normal for std healthy Scoob Keep the KL at max sensitivity and do the spanner test regularly to ensure if the engine does DET then you will know about it

JasW,
as above the activity of you knocklink seems normal and nothing to worry about, however the location of the knock could be wrong.
You describe placing the knock sensor somewhere where there is a hose attached? where have you refitted the hose?
I was advised to mount the knock sensor where the main earthing wire is on the engine block.

on the subject of knock link placement this is where I put mine and seems to be a common place to put them.

I was told to put mine there because its above number 3 cylinder and that's usually the one that goes

That isnt above number 3, more like above and behind no 4
The place jasoon suggests in his link is the correct and best place to put the sensor. Adivce given above of checking your knocklink is working by tapping the block is excellent, adn should be followed.
You should see it flicker as you start the engine, then you want it to be quiet for the rest of the time.

I get a nice drag race start in reverse if i really boot it, im sure mine needs turning down on the sens as I get activity over 4k. I had the car checked b4 I fitted the link thre was no knock at that time nothing has altered on the car except for a decat and Apexi AVC-r being fitted.
Any one else had to turn the sensitivity down?

There was no little bracket there on mine (MY04) or the bug eye that I fitted one on the day before I fitted mine.
But i did find this
"The best place to fit the new Bosch knock sensor is to the bracket on the passenger side of the engine block. Remove the existing bolt (M8x20mm) and fit the new sensor using a new M8x30mm bolt. Depending on the amount of give on the rubber hose attached to the bracket, you can either fit the sensor on top of the bracket or re-fit the bracket on top of the sensor."

Worth checking, turn off the AVC-R and drive as you would when KL lit up and see if any difference. If none, ok, noisy engine or other problem, if KL is quiet then the extra boost from AVC-R is leading to det. Decat helps breathing and could increase noise in engine but also det !

Add some Octane Booster - then check to see if KL activity ceases
Reduce the boost - then check KL for activity
or Ultimately have the engine listened to with DET cans
Cheers
