Nice strong engine not too expensive?
Hi,
Just in case the worst happens and my engine lets go MY98 UK, where would you suggest for buying a replacement short engine with good spec pistons, rods etc.
Would it be a better option to rebore my standard block (car suffers from piston slap) and fit good quality slightly oversize pistons, good quality rods etc.
Some of the short engines on the GGR website have steel crankshaft, is this really necessary?
Any price examples of what to expect to pay for a nice strong short engine?
Thanks
George

Although theoretically these may not be the best, in terms of experience they seem to be doing OK, so I would recommend one of the following:
1. Roger Clark 2.0 Omega/Arrow rebuild
2. USDM EJ257 2.5 standard Subaru block (+- rods/pistons)
There is more long term survival info on 1. Option 2 is proving better than many thought, and costs not much more than just the pistons or rods in option 1, never mind the donor block and the labour to build it. But I am obviously biased.
Any other robust engines that have done comfortably over 400 BHP for more than 12000 miles?
Some of the 2.33s look promising, but there are still too many issues IMHO, and not much in terms of mileage?
Obviously the EJ257 is OEM standard - expect 150000-250000 miles at 300 BHP standard power IMHO.
