legacy 2.5 gx 99t 78k miles

my clutch cable has started to creak when i push it down and lets out a little squeak when released.
does it just need a bit of lube or a new cable???

If the legacy is anything like the Impreza there is no cableas as it is hydraulic.
You may find the pivot at the top of the pedal needs a grease, as my impreza creaks every now and then.
Try and get up in there with a can of spray grease.

if it is cable then it's probably either the pivot in the gearbox or the as scott says the pivot at the top of the pedal the cables don't generally squeek.
