I made a chargecooler on a Renault 5 Turbo from a 2wd cosworth intercooler by fabbing an ally tank around the cooler part, with water inlet & outlet, had it tig welded up, looked ace. Then fitted it with a motorbike rad & small inline 12v boat pump on interval timer. It worked brilliantly! So well I was running silly boost, no detting & broke 2 gearboxes & 3 driveshafts!
I havn't seen anything like it yet on a scoob, only front mounts & I don't like the length of piping involved with those, so the chargecooler had crossed my mind but I'm still doing basic mods since I've only just got my first scoob.

Lag the turbo, as the heat from it rises straight into the i/c....bigger bonnet scoop.....tilt the i/c......straighten all bent fins, including underneath, and while the i/c is off, run a hose through the fins from behind....you'll be surprised how much crap comes out.....if all that isn't enough, fit some PC cooling fans underneath the i/c, to draw cold air through it.

done all that apart from the pc cooling fans, and my intercooler is brand new so no damage what so ever, not even a slight bend in 1 fin

Duct the exit from the i/c (though I dunno how to).
Fit a bigger scoop - though I hate that idea.
Duct air from the foglight area through to the i/c (though I've not seen it done).
Duct air to the the airbox from behind the rhs cheese wedge or spotlight (not if you like driving in water though).

Steve, I also have the bigger scoop from ETS, but I am NOT running a splitter. Is it really worthwhile fitting one, and where would I get hold of one??

So yours is basically a home-made jobby done by yourself right? Any dimensions/drawing you could mail me as then I could do the same? Got the ability/materials to do it, but can't really be arsed to do it from scratch, so some measurements would be easier!!

Andy at the end what aprox total volume of water were u using ? ..... still tempted to try this now that i have a spare TMIC (I still use the stock TMIC when drag racing ).
Probably for a 370bhp application this might be just enough, and will keep the quick throttle response .

would be nice to have a charge cooler fitted but i have no technical knowledge to make one, if there was a kit to buy from somewhere that would be great was looking at a spraybar kit which sprays water onto the intercooler when the intercooler reaches a certain temp, has anyone ever tried one of these or know anything about them

As Pete mentioned, with the rad in place approx 10 ltrs.
For drag racing I would fit a bigger swirl pot and fill it with ice prior to each run.
My new car is running a custom TMIC with twin 9" fans, should be good for 500bhp and sharp throttle response. Initial AP22 results are very promising

I used to have a Legacy charge cooler. I gained about 20 bhp using the same boost pressure with Andy's kit. Here are a few pics that show how much smaller the Legacy version is.
