Sorry about the boring question... I've heard that the oil filters have shrunk a little. Is this the length or the diameter? the new oil filter subaru gave me for my sti2 (my 95) is not only slightly shorter but also about 20mm less in diameter ( not measured it just guessing), is this correct?

Yes! We assume "Bigger is better" but I rely on the old addige of "small but perfectly formed" err - back to filters! Yes, they are worryingly small, but they do actually work.
