Default Gearbox oil type question - yes I've searched first!

When filling the gearbox using a funnel with about 18" of garden hose. Why use the garden hose? is it something to do with the air escaping?

I used a have a funnel with a narrow hose inside the funnel to allow the air to escape properly. Could I not do the same this time around?

I have searched but can I confirm about 4L for an MY00 Impreza.

Ta.

AFAIK hose is just to raise the funnel high enough to make pouring easier, the piece I use is a lot shorter than 18", oil goes down quite quickly even without a breather pipe.

Your are correct, 4L should bring it to the top of the gearbox dipstick.
