Should you be able to open wastegate by hand?

Default Should you be able to open wastegate by hand?

In a word.....No

If you remove the actuator from the turbo, then you should be able to hold it and just about pull the arm away from the body.

The wastegate button shouldn't be flapping around in the breeze though!

theres a bit of resistance whilst its still fitted but can be opened, is this the cause of pants boost?

More than likely.

The pressure of the exhaust gasses will probably be forcing the 'button' open and therefore bypassing the exhaust side turbine - resulting in little or no boost being generated.

Looks like you be needing to try another actuator from a breakers!

If you get a good grip of it you should be able to just move it a touch, unless you're a 12 year old girl
