WI works on a number of levels, not just the immediate effect on charge temp.
Do a search on the internet for some background info, but be aware that just adding WI will loose you power unless you can remap for it.

i have no problems with or without the water injection system on, i just fitted for more safety if you get the car mapped with water injection and you only have 1 map for the car id make sure you never let the water bottle go empty as the car will rely on this due to the map

I don't beleve you can switch maps on an my00 ecu, some one said you could do it on the new age cars. i beleve it was done by full throttle in third with the lights on and indicating left whilst flicking the foglamps on and off, and tooting the horn to the tune of 'yankee doodle dandy' (or something like that )
You could use the likes of a gems ecu, which would come with switchable maps. Also worth thinking about is the fact that the water injection nozzle is tiny, if it clogs, the pump fails or you run out of water you're in the s***.
I have it, not mapped for it and use it for:
High speed runs
on the track
1/4 mile
I have had no problems with it at all.
