Default Intercooler change

I have a 04 WRX and was just wondering what advantage there would be if i changed the intercooler for the bigger STi item, i plan on doing a few mods in the future including exhaust & remap.

Thanks Granby

Probably more air flow possible, better air temperature drop as better cooling, and less back pressure across the IC.

I'd leave this mod until you start to hike the power significantly, I don't know what the upper limit on the stock IC is, but certainly some headroom for another 50 plus BHP IMHO.

Read elsewhere on here that you would need the STi scoop and underscoop bonnet tray to use the STi IC effectively.

Cheaper alternative

Fit an air splitter and plumb in some DIY intercooler water spray !

Larger intercooler should allow you to run more boost safely or run raised boost levels safely.

Have a look at these for more info (you might have to pay to read all the articles)
