Red face Split Seal - Front Axle :oOOO

Just noticed over the last couple of days that the off-side front wheel was occasionally making a slight clonking noise in line with the wheel rotation when going round tight right bends/roundabouts. Just taken both front wheels off to investigate & the rubber seal on the end of the axle (just behind the brake disk) has split about 70% of the way round.

Presumably this is something that wants fixing quite quickly as if any cr@p gets in there i'm buggered (

Does anyone know whether the clonking could be just a result of the seal going or could it be something worse? This could prove to be expensive I imagine? Not the seals but the labour involved?

Just had the bleedin geometry done as well

If a CV joint boot is ripped the grease is flung out and road dirt gets in which damages the CV joint. If the boot is replaced promptly and the joint repacked with clean grease you'll get away with it, if it's been like that for a while you probably won't.

Signs of a knackered joint are clicking or graunching noises when the steering is hard over, easy to hear if you turn the car round on full lock at slow speed (first gear)
