Default Couple of greens on the knocklink...

I find this quite strange.....

I'm running an MY99 with GEMS, TD05/06, APS tmic, de-cat and HKS induction kit, walbro fuel p/p 550cc injectors.

In second gear I noticed the first green flickering quite a lot on wot just before and whilst shifting gear. I assumed a bad tk of fuel since it'd just been filled from almost empty. When I switched over to the 'safe map' (a few degrees retarded on the high load sites) and gave it another go, I got the first two greens flickering even worse.

Back to the advanced map and disconnected the dv, no greens????? Given it's a map based ecu i didn't think the vta would have any effect. I don't fancy leaving it with no dv, so any suggestions??? The dv in question is an HKS SSQV.

I'm also getting a few bottom greens on high speed over run, could this be leaning out as I have quite a bit of fuel on the over run?

If there's any instructions floating about for home made det cans I would be gratefull too.... I beleve John Banks and/or T-uk made a set??

Cheers guys, Dave.

No one??? Oh well, How about this then....

Has anyone broke a TD05/06 by running it with no dv? Or does anyone think there would be serious issues arrising from running like that?

Should I go and put a wire mesh in the throttle body to catch the compressor blades as they come winging though?!

Urm, I think the Intercooler would catch any flying compressor blades?

..But seriously, sounds like background noise to me. Firstly because the 1st green is flickering - you're not getting a nasty spike up to amber or red.
Secondly because you're getting it on the overrun as well, and I don't think its possible to det on a closed throttle. May be wrong tho.

Det on the over run, well since i have fuel on the over run, and knoclink activity is higher at say 4th @120mph I can't count out a bit of det, I never got any activity at all b4 I had GEMS installed.

Dave, you can borrow my cans if you are across this way anytime (and copy them for future use)

You will not break the turbo running it without a DV, the 20G seems to like the TMIC and will run quite happily without recirc or VTA.

With a MAP based ECU, if you have an air leak then the turbo has to work harder to maintain boost, this increases the EGBP which in turn increases cylinder pressure. The ignition advance which was once correct is now too far advanced and may well be the cause of your K/L activity.

I'd suggest fuel cutting on the overrun until the revs fall below a set level, this will reduce bore wash and any tendency to get sparkly det at the high advance levels most likely set under those conditions.

Cheers Andy, That sounds like good advice. Unfortunately I don't have the gems software so I think I'll just be taking it easy 'till I'm far enough south to get this sorted out.

Will get in touch next time I'm down there for a look at these cans.
