Unhappy Turbo blown or what?

Hi Guys

I'm new to the world of Scoobs and have recently got a 1 year old WRX with PPP with 18k on the clock.

While giving it a good outing, I had a "bang" (sounded more like a "dooff" with a slight judder. At first it sounded like a backfire with a judder, but then the engine light came on constantly. initial "tests" showed an overboost error, which was reset. On the test drive, the engine light re-appeared. The garage hasn't got any further withits investigations yet.

Any ideas what might be wrong?

Cheers
Voley

I shouldn't think you've blown a turbo - you'd be smoking fit to bust out the exhaust if you had. My opinion, you've either blown a turbo pipe and punched a hole in it or possibly a backfire has wrecked the MAF. Mass air flow sensor. lt's a silly little filament thing in the induction system that measures air speed relative to the fuel required [ sort of - but you get the drift ] they're not very robust and give all sorts of trouble.

An electric diagnostic test will pull up any fault codes on the system and that'll tell you what's gone wrong most times. MAF's are about a hundred quid mostly. Fitted in seconds.{ "but we always charge for a full hour Sir" }

Where are you in the country? Someone will point you to the nearest sensible Subaru specialist who'll sort you out quite quickly I'm sure.
