Question Adding oil stabiliser to stop tapping when cold???????

Has anyone added Lucas heavy duty oil stabiliser 100% petroleum to their engine oil? Ir contains no teflon, sulphur or chlorine.
I have a 1998 5 door turbo and it has started to knock quite considerably when cold, I have been advised that this should help the problem. Will this be OK with the turbo?

What oil are you running at the moment?

Magnatec isn't very well regarded on here. It doesn't stand up very well to the heat produced by the turbo engine. The first thing to do would be to try changing your oil out for something like Mobil 1 Motorsport 15w/50 , Motul 300V 15w/50 or Castrol RS 10w/60.

Motul has a good reputation on here.

I wouldn't use the Mobil 1 give the choice of Motul or Castrol RS.

Redline do a 15/50 fully synth too now which appears to be in same leage as Motul and RS.

I agree with Pavlo and to add Redline 15W/50 have been prooved (with tests) better even from the famous 300V 15W/50 as their base is 100% ester!

Thanks for all of the contributions...... I have today been down to the Scooby garage and picked up some 10/40 oil, that they use on their services..... also added some slick 50 ( does anyone already use this)?

To be honest I would be wary of any additives, the turbo bearings are supplied with engine oil and can get extremely hot, not sure if many of them would stand up to the abuse.

Things that I have seen to quieten your engine are usually treacle like consistency. I was almost tempted on my old legacy with its noisy lash adjusters but didnt bother in the end when I opened the tin and seen what it was like. I could just imagine it gumming up the engine.

Don't worry about the knocking, I was told by a rally team an engine that had the most slap produced the best power

Do not put Slick 50 into the oil, it will not stand the temps, strongly advise taking out what is in there and flushing through about three times with clean flushing oil changing filter first and last times as well. You have probably done one of the worst things possible by adding that.

No additives should be used in these cars.

Is the 10-40 fully synthetic, semi synthetic ? Some dealers also use Magnatec !!!

Stick with one of the above recommended.
