Unhappy help!!!!!!!!

Hi,

My MY00 has just failed the MOT on emmissions - up at 10%, I've spoken to Subaru who say its the lambda sensor and want £220 for it and the fitting, has anyone got any better ideas, the car is also awful on tickover - really hunting and dies at junctions.

Any pointers will be greatly appreciated as I've just had to fork out for 2 tyres as well for the mot

Cheers

Daz

Sounds like your MAF causing the dodgy idle, but I could be wrong. As for the Lambda sensor give B R Developments a call, just ordered one from then at around £110 on a MY99. Looks pretty simple to fit so will try and do it myself.

Thumbs up

You can get them from Cats Direct, the 3 wire sensor @ 30 quid should be suitable - bargain.

Some say they're not as good as the OE but at £30 you cant go far wrong, although they definately aren't suitable for the older scoob where it woz mounted in the headers.

The lambda can also mess around with the idle when it's knacked, you should also find it lumpy/hesitanty at low revs and having poor fuel economy.

If after changing the Lambda you still have idling probs then look to the MAF.

Have you changed the exhaust????

I run a full decat and at MOT time it's off the new and on with the old, just to make sure, but if one of the joints are leaking then it throughs the emmissions through the roof. Mine didn't want to idle correctly either.

Just a thought, hope it helps

Question

Thanks for all the advice,

I've changed the lambda today, no joy unfortunately, does anyone know the cost of a MAF sensor as I phoned around my local dealerships this morning only to get asked for VIN no. etc. (what a bunch of tos**rs)

Cheers

Have you put the ecu in test mode and read memory mode to assertain whether one of the sensors has gone down. The ecu will report a fault code and store it.

I know some of the subaru dealers can be a bit awkward handing over information but the need the VIN no to place exactly what parts are on the car. They have access to all the subarus released and with the VIN number it tells what parts your car has got.

I have the instructions on how to do the read and test modes so email me and I'll send them to you.

try this
My 1993 wrx failed badly on the emissions test so i cleaned out the mas (black box behind filter with large socket cable) with brake cleaner and used ear buds to get into the fine metal sensor that sits in the middle. The next day it flew through. Got to be better than a new £300 sensor
