Question on Rear Differentials

Question on Rear Differentials
For those that have meddled with replacing rear diff's, which are the popular choices?
I know of 2 local STI7s which have replaced the rear diffs with mechanical types (one with the Spec C mechanical diff, and the other with a cusco type RS). However, on high speed sweeping turns approx 80-100kmh, they report a "banging" type noise from the rear diff, while under power.
Could this be a lockup, which results in the "bang" when the torque unwinds itself in the plates? Any similar expereinces?
Cheers.

STi v3 rear diff on my Euro calssic car with 6 speed JDM gearbox makes an amazing difference. Can now balance oversteer on the throttle.....rather than under steer

Standard STi v3 plated diff, standard JDM 6MT centre. Not sure on the front diff - it doesn't 'feel' like a SureTrac, but I haven't been on track with it yet.

Interesting thread this.
I have a hill climb Stiv3, and have change the whole trans to an early RA with 4.11 diffs. My sti trans has 4.44, but I do not think it has a plated rear, just a viscous. Didn't the Sti RA's only have the plated type?
Anyway, have you found the 6 speed sti box good with the 8000 rpm Sti engine? What diff ratio's do the 6speeders have?
I do not expect the RA trans to last the season coming with slick tyres, and i think I will go for the 6 speed sti box.
Any thoughts?
Apart from the ratio's, the ealy RA diff (1994) and the 1996 Facelift sti diff are exactly the same in appearance and feel.
