Default rear bearing noise!!

My MY96 has recently developed a rear bearing noise that starts at low speed and gets faster with wheel speed. It is there regardless of whether the car is in gear or not. Both rear wheel bearings have been changed but this made no difference to the noise. The noise gets quieter above 50-60mph. Any ideas?

Post Rear Wheel Bearings

I'd suggest that it might be the diff side bearings, it's about all it could be after the outer wheel bearings have been changed. Assuming that they have been competently changed.

Try making long slowish turns [arcs more like ] on a straight, quiet bit of road to make the car lean on the rear wheel bearings and see if the noise changes at all. The diff noise will be constant and will not change under the above circumstances. Checked the diff oil??

If you're anywhere near to us at API near to Warwick [ M40 J 12 ] run the car along to us for a quick free diagnosis. If we work we charge but advice is always free.

Dave , I wouldnt mind running my Type R around to you at some point if its OK.

Have a very loud bearing type noise from the rear, which I think is a rear wheel but would prefer a pro's second opinion before I go ahead with any work.

I am J9 M40 , so not too far etc
