Unhappy HELP !!, IT'S LIKE HITTING A BRICK WALL

ANY IDEAS ??.
I OWN A 98 TURBO 2000 AND IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS OR SO WHEN THE CAR IS PUSHED HARD IN 3rd, 4th OR 5th GEAR, FOR A SPLIT SECOND IT FEEL'S LIKE YOU'VE HIT A BRICK WALL. IT DOES THIS ABOUT 4 OR 5 TIMES IN A ROW ABOUT A SECOND APART. IT FEELS LIKE YOU'VE HIT THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH A 1 TON SHOE. A FREIND SUGGESTED IT COULD BE WRONG BOOST PRESSURE. HELP !

fuel cut mate, your car is prob overboosting which is what is bringing on fuel cut to prevent meltdown

Is the exhaust standard? Try putting the standard air filter back on. If that doesn't work, try cleaning the wastegate solenoid. Check the restrictor hasn't become obstrcuted. If none of that works, you could use a Dawes devicie. If none of that makes sense to you, take it to a reputable garage

Is it just a Scoobysport backbox or is it a full decat exhaust system? If it's just a backbox, don't worry about it. Try the air filter then boost solenoid first.

It's just a back box. I'll try a standard filter at the weekend.

Get yourself a ScoobyECU, email Pavlo at - pavlo@cdtech.co.uk

More bhp and an overboost cure(in most cases), he does a sexy map for the STi 1s, I've had mine and the car is 100% better. I also had the overboost problem on my STi 1, the ECU and also a Green panel filter cured it, get rid of the Ram air.

He has an MY98, so can't use a ScoobyECU.

Fixed my fuel-cut for good using a Blitx boost controller, fitted by Power Eng. RR gave 315 bhp from a stock/full decat Stiv3. But try jlanngs advice first. This is a common issue so lots of good advice to be had.

Graham.

I had this problem myself on a MY98 UK turbo a couple of years ago - the force of the "power cut" is unbelieveable. I'm not a techie so I can't give you the absolute low-down on the cause but when I took it to a Subaru dealer they fixed it in one visit and said that some pipes and the wastegate solenoid (I think) had become contaminated - probably by some previous over-filling of oil. They replaced the solenoid and cleaned everything up - it never happened again.

Hope this helps and good luck.

It's definitely worth cleaning the wastegate solenoid. Click here for info on that...

I checked the oil and there was just a spot at the bottom of the dipstick, so i rapidly put in 3 ltrs and a day later checked again and it was well over max, so i took it to a garage and they drained off the 3 ltrs i put in ????, strange !?!.
