It's common enough to almost rate as a Subaru characteristic. When the problem first emerged Subaru were replacing parts to solve it but as time has passed it has been discovered to be pretty much harmless provided it goes away when the engine is fully warmed up - i.e 20 - 30 minutes normal driving. If you can hear it all the time it might be worth looking into, but since that will mean an engine out job to strip and inspect fully, you'd be paying nigh on the cost of rebuilding the engine anyway so you are probably as well to live with it unless you start to get problems such as excessive oil use or an effect on performance.
My car has a bit of slap when it's cold - no effect other than the noise.
