Default fuel leak/fuel pump help

I've got a fuel leak,it seems to be coming from the plate on top of the fuel tank that is under the oval plate in the boot.It leaks when tank is full mostly.I tried to take the plate off but the big black pipe had high fuel pressure in it.how do I take it off and is the fuel pump under this plate.
many thanks
Steve.

Yes the fuel pump is under that plate in a cradle try thing.. lol

The easiest thing to do is to disconnect the electrical plug on the top of that plate which is the power for the fuel pump.. start the car with it disconnected and allow it to run until it dies.. do that a couple of times .. this will reduce the pressure.

Then remove the pipe and use say a 500ml coke bottle to put the pipe in as soon as it is off as it will spray fuel.

The other pipes then come off.. and there is then the small nuts on top of the fuel tank.

That is how to get it off.. I would think though that it is unlikely to be your problem.
Check all the pipes on top there for splits and that they are secure.

If you think it is still the plate then check the nuts are tight, careful though as the sheer off easy.

There is a couple of cables that run along the top of the tank which could be caught between tank top and tank so check they are clear, and also clear when you refit..

thanks mate,I think it is the plate because it seems a bit damp around it and stinks of petrol, the car has an uprated fuel pump so the plate would have been off a some stage.I'll have another go at it tommorow.

also; double check the rubber gasket under the 'lid' is seated properly.. I had a persistent vapour leak that was down to a ever so slightly mis alinged gasket.. the distance was TINY..

bit of 'instantgasket' will help if worst come to the worst
