Default Cleaning Pistons.

With my 93WRX engine apart, pistons undamaged, there is a thin layer of carbon deposit on the crown. I know this is normal, but is there a method of removing it and would it be worth it? I have heard a rumout that the likelihood of det is increased due to the deposits becoming very hot, but this is unsubstantiated.

Cheers All

I've never re-used pistons myself, but you could try the stuff the catering industry uses to remove carbon deposits. Don't know what its called but all good catering wholesalers must stock it. Just a thought. Might be a stupid idea!!!

Thats a p155 take then is it mr-old-and-crap-suzuki-named-type person? You could always take the plugs out and squirt some fairy liquid down the bores I spose. Moo haha

Red face

Never stripped an engine like the Scoob but on anything else I have just scrapped it off.. with a wide blunt chisel

I suspect I would be inclinded to do the same only perhaps finish off with some wet and dry or something and try my damnedest not to pit the piston crown.

Hold them in a vice etc..

I do like the coke idea. Presumably it wont attack the pistons or we'd be unlikely to live after drinking it (wouldnt we?)

Coke works, and for the few stubborn bits that won't budge we use scotch bright and parafin.
