NOISE FROM LIFTERS
#1
Hi all
When at idle after a good blast, I always hear a noise witch seems like the tappet's noise when they need adjustment!
My car is My2000 with PPP and only 18000 km without any other mod. I use Castrol RS 10W/60 every 4000-5000 km.
The local Subaru service told me this is normal for the Scooby due to increased gap between lifters in high temp.
Is this normal and if yes why other performance cars don't suffer from this phenomenon?

Jim,
MY2000 uses solid lifters which do tend to be a bit noiser than hydraulic types, but I'm sure the hot clearence is always smaller than the cold clearence - at least it was in my Haynes Mini manual .
My tappets are also quite noisey, and was wondering if it was worth having them adjusted.
Cheers,
Alex
