Firstly has anyone an ECU that I could beg, borrow or buy for my UK Spec MY94.

I'm trying to get to the route cause of an intermitent problem that I have, and have recenlty been told that it may be an ECU fault.
I have also tried fitting a new Boost control solenoid, new plugs (tried at 06, 07 and 1.0mm) and another set of Coil packs. None of which made any difference, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

The problem being most noticeable when pulling away in 1st, where it seems to pull well, then hesitate briefly, and then pulls like a train.
In other gears you can intermitently feel that is isn't pulling as well as it does at other times.

I've also had Barratts Motorsport connect it up to there diagnostic analyser, but this did not highlight any error. But they did witness the above mentioned behaviour.

Lastly will a 93-96WRX ECU be compatable if one could be sourced.

Cheers....

To try and get it to fox the problem or get it to register the fault as an error code ?

Done a ECU reset lunchtime by connecting the under-dash connectors.
Gave it loads of whelly whilst it was running through the diagnostice set-up, but the car did not misbehave or generate any error codes.

This is probably due to the boost being limitted to 7psi during this period, so is masking the problem.

Disconnected the diagnostic connectors and the problem is still there.
The car only genertes about 12psi (which I think is normal), so could I be experiencing premature fuel cut ?

I don't think doing what you described would reset the ecu. I believe you need to disconnect the battery and leave for a few minutes to let any residual charge disappear. I had a problem which was diagnosed by various people as overboost cut-out (even though it wasn't overboosting) and doing a reset cured the problem. There was no fault reported on the ecu, and nothing in the ecu memory.

Scott.T,

I had exactly the same problem with MY94 WRX. The revs got to 4500rpm then power dropped before pulling again at around 5000rpm. Rolling road showed a drop of 30hp and -8deg of retard at 4500rpm. Tried replacing everything at a cost of £650, only to discover it was my ECU. Forget any ECU older than a MY95. My car had a MY95 ECU installed and the problem was solved straight away (you will see if you borrow one). I am told that the old ECU's have a circuit board which can be damaged very easily. It took me 6 months to get the bottom of this and the car if superb now with no hesitation.

Hope you get it fixed soon,

Steve.
