Read your handbook - it states that 5/30 grade is not recommended for turbo versions although it is a prefered grade for the normally aspirated engines.

Subaru manuals actually state its recommended for the turbo car for "normal" use, the manual does recommend a heavier duty grade for "heavy" use. If you read the "Big End No 3 thread" (allow a couple of hours though) there is heaps of good info and advice in there but Subaru actually state that the 5w:30 gives the best balance for cold startiung and "normal" driving.

My own views lend towards suggesting that a good quality synthetic 15w:50w is the "safest" grade area but that is my view. Motul, Castrol, Redline are the brands that spring immediately to mind.

Do some searches as there are many threads on this subject in the archives.

Be aware that Halfords sell a 0w:40 Castrol RS which would not be suitable due to the "0" rating.

This is why I was asking - I can get oil on my fuel card (useful with scooby) and and shell is the only station near me with fully synthetic - anyone know any others that do FS.

Thanks!

Question

Hi Jim,

Are you saying that Castrol RS 10W/60 is going to be discontinued and that the Castrol 0W/40 is going to replace it?

Cheers,

Wrexy.

Wink

Here in Greece you can buy all the Castrol range in BP fuel stations.
Some of them sell the famous RS 10-60 witch recently replaced with the new 0-40.

Yes new oil is Castrol Formula RS Motorsport 0w40 Race developed with Toyota and Williams F1. For older cars is TWS Motorsport 10w60. So what is the best for Scooby now? Is it 0w40 witch can stand up high temp in turbo or 10w60?

Sorry WREXY, I agree with Erik!
I think we must buy some cartoons of RS 10W/60 or change the Castrol with the Motul 15W/50.
In my opinion go for the Motul, I am going to do the same.
Cheers

Jim
