The engine has one crank case breather and two cam cover breathers.. the pipes come from these up to the air intake pipe just before the turbo.. oil fumes and vapour travel up them and into the engine where it is burned. This does reduce the RON of the fuel mixture but unless you have problems with lots of oil in the intercooler, boost controller etc or the engine is highly modified and it is causing det due to reduced RON there is not a great deal of need to interfer with them.

i ask as my mates has a small k&n filter from a pipe seemingly coming from his manifold area? sure he said it was this...
someone else put a post on ages ago saying they were of benefit, but this sounds like it has one already...can it be modded to be more beneficial?
