Cats or Not?

Befoe leaping in and buying a SS DP and BB for my 94 WRX it would probably be good idea to find out if i'll remove the only cat in my system! 
Are there two cats, one in the Downpipe and one in the Mid section on this particular model? As I'd heard that the centre one might be a small silencer.
Secondly, if the centre is a cat, how long do they last?
As I wouldn't want to spend my budget only to find it failing at the next MOT!!

Enquire at your MOT garage to see if they've got your car listed in their files, if not then it must be tested as an import and therefore you can get away with no cats.!!!
It would be worth investigating a little b4 you do it though.
