Hey all, i've just been offerd a Blitz Hybred Turbo off a mate's car he's done less than a 1000 mile's with it and now decides to get a bigger HKS item
Does anyone know....
He's offerd it to me for 500, is this a good price??
Will my engine survive it???
Will i need a boost controller to get the full potential???
What sort of gain's can i expect from this Turbo???
Car WRX my95. Cheer's Chaps

Depends what sort of life the turbo has had over the 1000 miles. If it was thrashed within an inch of it's life I wouldn't touch it. If it's had a relatively easy life, then it's a bargain.

How long is a piece of string! It depends what sort of pressure you'll be running, whether the fueling, ignition timing and boost levels you run!

To get the full potential, you'll need a re-mappable ECU. An EBC will raise the boost levels, but you have to ask yourself whether the engine can take the boost levels you have planned. Also it begs the question whether the fuelling and ignition timing be ok. Also can your injectors spply enough fuel for what you want?

Depends on how you implement it! You'd expect bigger gains from a mappable ecu, than you would an ebc. But again one of those how long is a piece of string questions!
Sorry if it isn't much help, but the questions really only lead to vauge answers!

Cheer's Andy at least you answered
The mile's he's done havent been real hard mile's he's done 2 track day's on it but sureley it can take that!
I was just going to bolt it on, then decide where to go from there, i don't want to raise the boost through the roof but was thinking of getting a boost controller and uping it to 1 bar???
Is this sensible or have i spent too much time in the muppet forum??

Crypt, It is impossible to answer your questions on performance without knowing the spec of the turbo or being able to work out how it performs from a compressor map.
500 sounds lik a good price for anty almost new turbo, but it may be completely useless to you.
To extract the benefits from any mods affecting volumetric efficiency, you really should go for an after market ecu or unichip.

getting the right turbo for a uk car is tricky due to the extra long gearing. i would stick to the tried and tested ones VF23,24,28 sizes or you can have a car that is very laggy. put it this way you can end up with a turbo that goes on full power over 100mph and have nothing before that.

Cheers guy's, i'll get the spec sheet for it tonight and post it up later
Sam, the car is a WRX import, and the car the turbo is coming off is a WRX my94 so will definitely fit and won't be laggy i know this because i've been in the car it's fitted on at the moment.

Discussed the matter further today and turns out the turbo is apexi not blitz as he first said. Spoke to the guys at rc developments who are strengthening the engine on my mates car and they recamend using a apexi avcr and afc unit's to get the most out of it as i don't fancy spending 2000 on a motech ecu.
