Question

Hi all, now that I have all/most of the bits'n'pieces I need to fit my nice new turbo I have come across a problem that I need an answer to! The new turbo, and actuator have 5mm 'nipples' whereas the VF28 has much smaller ones, so I need to source some new pipe I know NOT to use the Samco vacuum pipe, as it's too soft, but what can I use, and where do I get it from?? (Can't see any suitable from Demon Tweeks catalogue etc.. apart from Fuel hose in 5/16th Inch size?

Also, will 5mm hose still fit onto the 3 port Boost solenoid without slipping off?

(Ps, also, can I re-use the water-pipe and oil feed fixings, and do I use copper washers on the water pipes??)

Appreciate any replies/advice

Cheers Richard, I have some slightly larger bore pipe that I got with a Boost gauge, but honestly cannot beleive that people still use the original hose It looks far too small! Surely this must have a negative effect on the pressures involved?!

The Samco stuff only seems to be a problem at very high boost..

No problems so far at 1.2bar..

Although I am aware that it could cause a problem.. lol

Did you not get my mail?

Have you still got the small plastic adapters Subaru use for "turbo/boost solenoid" area which can reduce hose internal diameter to what you need?

Yes, got your mail Alan, but posted this up at the same time I mailed you!. I haven't looked, but I still have the original 2-port Boost solenoid in the garage, and all the original pipework on the car, so should be O.K.

I just want to make sure I have/thought of everything before I get stuck in!----Can you answer my Ques about the Oil feed and Water-pipe feeds??

Hi James

You need to use a bigger bore hose really 4mm - 5mm ID bore, not the original stuff, I found that i got boost creep with the original sized hose.

As far as connecting to the boost solenoid the bigger sized bore should be ok.

You need to secure all hoses with mini jubilee clips as well.

Cheers

Hello again Iain, Where did you get your stuff from? I've had a good look through the Merlin Motorsports Catalogue (Castle Combe Race circuit) Can't see anything suitable?

But, as I mentioned, I have some 4mm ish ID rubber hose, that was supplied with a Boost gauge that should do the trick!

James

The hose came with the TD05FE. Samco do a suitable hose (it needs to be for positive pressure etc), that way you can have your engine bay looking even tartier .

I'm sure i can get you some if you want.

Cheers

Oil feed pipe can be re-used, no mods.

Think John Banks used original water feed hose (MY00) car, but i used a hose which came with an old TD05 90 degree entry.

Thanks again Alan. I now have everything I need apart from, Catch Tank (On its way from Scoty I believe) and engine oil! Gonna try the 300v Motul I think.

Trying to sort out a pressure switch to activate the I/C waterspray aswell so it will operate from 10psi onwards, but can't seem to source a suitable switch from anyone!??

Have mailed Bob regarding a date to Re-map, so when I get one I can get on and fit all the goodies Can't wait

My water hose should fit shouldn't it? MY00 too You gave me the pipe with the turbo.(The turbo will fit without grinding away gearbox casing, and/or compressor housing won't it Alan?)

Have read of some troubles fitting TD05/06's lately
