hey guys...got a noise under load....sounds like a drone, rattle, whistle type noise , can compare it to when heater motor bearings die and it makes that noise...

under load....starts around 2500 rpm then worst at 3500rpm...
doesnt do it when driven on ramp...had it to 100mph plus on ramp!
doesnt do it really when u just sit there and rev he rup..

worst at 70mph 3500rpm on motorway..u cna paly tunes with the throttle..

it def aint...cambelt rollers, tensioner, w pump, alt, power steering, any loose bolts on engine, brake pipes on bulkhead...
had car to bits, fitted new parts and checked others..

and its a non turbo 98 sport...

any ideas gratefully received....even the scooby techy said theres something there, but couldnt put finger on it...

regards chris

I'm not quite clear on the description of your noise and I see it's a non turbo, so I don't know if this will help.

I changed the DP on mine, shortly after that mine started making a tfff tfff tfff tfff noise in the background when the engine was under load only. I was always convinced the exhaust was blowing someplace, but on a standstill with the bonnet up I could rev the nuts off it and could never get it to do it.

Anyway, few weeks back I decided to remove the DP to wrap it, and sure enough one of the nuts between the DP and the turbo had come almost completely undone and it had been blowing like a bugger.

I reckon the reason it only done it on load was cos of the way the engine rocked when it was pulling.

I two had exactly that happen.. when I next took the downpipe off there was a nut missing and one had stripped the thread and had to be cut off..

The gasket was buzzing..

If the 'volume' is load related, it's likely to be gases trying to escape where they shouldn't, i.e. exhaust leak
