Question

Hi All

My sister has a classic MY96 sport that is immaculate. She has had all the mods done to the car now apart from the engine and now wants some power.

Her car already has the uk turbo two pots at the front and discs at the rear so the brakes are up to it (she isn't a fast driver )

Her loom for her engine has loads of plugs that aren't plugged into anything so it looks like the sport may have the same loom.

Is the gearbox the same on a sport? and will the diffs cope? & is the suspension the same and up to it?

What will I need if this can be done? I'm guessing an engine (wrx from an import ) an ecu & exhaust????

If she sold hers and got a wrx she would have to go from an MY96 that's mint with sti interior etc to an MY93 wrx import for the same money

What do you reckon?

I need to weigh up whether it's worth converting her car or selling it and buying another

Thanks in advance and any help or advice would really appreciated

All the following are from my sieve like memory!!

The anti roll bar arrangement is different (back is either very thin or absent) and the diffs are different ratios, not sure about the gear ratios. Sport has open diffs, WRX/turbo has at least a rear LSD. (I think!)

In addition to the turbo and engine you'll need a turbo ECU, all the sensors (MAF, MAP, lambda etc...) for the new engine, a different set of coils (depends on the model year), possibly it would be easier to just replace the engine wiring loom. Also the exhaust system is (obviously ) different - I think all the way to the backbox, but it could just be the downpipe & centre section.

Hope I remembered everything/haven't got it wrong.

Unless you've got the bits or can get them for next to nothing, it might be cheaper (and easier on insurance?) to change the car

However, it would make an interesting project!!

If you mail me, I can sort out any pictures of my MY96 UK turbo you may want for comparison.

Cool

Hi

That was the sort of answers that I was looking for It would be interesting to see if this is correct. If it is as much as you say then it would probably be much easier to sell it and start again.

Thanks

Unhappy

No idea if it's been done I thought the drivetrain would have been the same but if not this could just become too expensive and a waste of time
