Hi All,
Anyone got any ideas on this:
2nd gear, just above 4,000 rpm a purring type vibration noise starts at the front of the car, then fades out after 5,000 rpm. Can't hear it in any other gear, and the car still pulls well.
I have checked the turbo pipes no visible signs of a leak or anything. Surely the car wouldn't still pull hard if it had a leak in the system?
Now i can hear the turbo start to make the 'wooshing' noise below 3,000rpm as it starts to spool up, and slight 'chirp' if i come off throttle at around 4,000rpm.
Does that sound normal???
Car is a MY00
cheers
M.

Sounds like Turbo heat shield is rattling. Do a search on here for "Heat Shield". Its the plate over the turbo with the small hand embossed in. Check the small bolts which keep it secure
The chirp noise sounds normal on throttle lift off, thats the dump valve doing its job (standard cars have a recirculating unit)
