wurring or whine when coasting slowly to a stop, steering feels odd and when accelerating it pulls a bit to one side also feels like breaks on slightly, ok when drove to work but not coming home.
Any help appreciated

Hmm tricky !!

Does the sound get worse when you are on full lock ?

Does the noise increase at higher speeds (obviously up to the point you cant hear over the engine) !

Is the sound definitely from the front ?

How old is the car ?

It "sounds" like wheel bearing or driveshaft, CV Joint ? but without more details difficult to say ! It could even be something (stone etc) trapped between the disk and the shield ? stranger things have happened !

UK94 I think its only had clutche and gearbox bearings (both 2 yrs ago) in its life, not noticed it getting worse when turning or accelerating just when slowing down but steering feels jumpy, I actually thought a tyre was low when driving home.

It does sound like it may be a wheel bearing ! I may be wrong, im no expert. Usually sounds like a low grumbling noise, and is speed related !

Take the wheels off and check the pads/disks for wear, especially the inside pads, and make sure nothing is trapped between the shield and the disk/caliper

If any of the experts can chime in they may have a better idea !

Sorry if i havent been any help !

Thanks for the replies Ian, pretty sure its the back now (just been for a spin), as I was stopping at lights with slight uphill to a stop the car held itself but when I jacked up the rear both wheels moved ok and could roll the car back and forth ok aswell, there is also a little rumbling noise but not all the time and the whine does dissapear at speed. At worst could it be the rear diff.

Been out again, sounds like changing down a gear when slowing.

Hmmm, it "could" be the rear diff ! but i wouldnt jump straight to that conclusion !

It could still be a wheel bearing/drive shaft etc ! Its very hard to tell without actually hearing it ! are there any dealerships or garages that you trust in your area ? may be worth a small amount of hassle to set your mind at rest !

Thumbs up

Cheers, probably take it to main dealers (Robinsons) Monday but with it happening over weekend and nowhere to take it I thought i'd ask at the best place first.

Recently had problems with a worn drive flange which caused a whinning/squeeling sort of noise that changed in pitch depending on speed and the amount of steering lock involved.

Question

Think it might be prop shaft, dont know yet but it has a hell of an effect on the steering when you boot it, it seem to be draging the car as if the brakes are sticking.

Had the car in today, put it in the air and noticed the rear drivers wheel was out of balance so changed over to my 15's and hey presto jobs a good'un, but wheels need aligning, can't believe that this could cause all those problems.
