Prodrive BB WR vs P1
#1
I've got a MY00 and thinking of changing the BB. I fancied the Prodrive WR unit as it's a little quiter than the SS. However, I've just been told by the dealer that they can fit the P1 BB.
Anyone care to comment on the differences?

Ths standard P1 backbox is just an STI item. Not very loud, and quite restrictive from what I've been told.
It depends why you are after a backbox; noise, performance, looks, etc.
The P1/STI backbox should be cheaper as I've seen them change hands for less that £50!
As I say it depends what you are after!
Cheers

I really wanted a new BB for an increase in the noise level. I didn't want the noise to go through the roof, just a bit more RB5 like. A circular pipe would be an added benefit!
I was under the impression that the standard P1 BB was from STi. I thought the P1 BB (with the embossed P1) was from the P1 WR range.

Sounds like the Scorpion one is exactly what you want then - increased noise (but not as loud as some Jap pipes or the SS one) and a nice round tailpipe too.
When I said it is the same as the Prodrive one I meant the one that Prodrive fit as part of there performance pack (ie the round one) that is not available on its own. - This is the one the Prodrive RB5's got.
I'm not sure if the Prodrive that is available on its own (ie the one with the oval tailpipe) is essentially the same thing but with a tailpipe or not. Or indeed what the noise levels of this one are.
Plus the decat centre section will give you a bit more oomph as well.

There are 2 P1 back boxes available. The standard one should be cheap, it is the STI item as detailed above.
Also available is the louder and less restrictive P1 WR prodrive backbox, this one is probably what you are after, it is a P1 WR option and different from the STI one.

Andy W, I've got the backbox u r talking about (with P1 embossed on it) fitted to my my00 and i'm v.happy with it. Not quite as loud or boomy as the scoobysport item at lower revs but great when u press the fast pedal.

What's the P1 BB like on the motorway? I used to have an Integra-R which sounded awesome on the back roads but was a pain in the **** on long motorway journeys...
How did having the P1 BB affect your insurance?

What is the ECU (and model of car?), surely only the Prodrive one doesn't effect engine warranty? If it is the prodrive ecu then perfect and a bargin, if not try calling International Motors and asking whether it affects warranty.

Be careful, a friend of mine went to a dealer in the North, who gave the same claims and the costs were the same. It turned out to be a Superchip
A Superchip will invalidate your warranty!
Might be worth giving them another call and see if they mention Prodrive, if they don't avoid it.
Also if you paid £350 for the backbox, it's probably the proper one at that money, but check for the embossed P1!
Hope this helps

The WR BB will have the words Prodrive engraved in the tailpipe, but they are quite expensive but are suppose to give you around 8bhp more and do sound good
