Tips on Changing Spark Plugs
#1
After many hours pondering if I should change my spark plugs myself or get my local dealer to do it for £65.
I decided to bite the bullet and have a go.
So here are my tips based on an MY94
1. Jack near-side front high enough to allow access from underneath.
2. Remove 12mm bolt, securing coil pack to cylinder head.
3. Withdraw Coil pack and tuck out of harms reach.
4. Using a 'Halford Proffesional'Spark Plug Socket (which has a Hex Head, at ratchet end) + Standard Large Spark Plug Socket acting as an extension (this gives the exact length required). Remove Spark Plug (Note : remember to remove the rubber grommet from the Spark Plug Socket or you run the risk of getting it stuck on the Plug, when re-fitting).
5. Fit new plug using the above Socket combination, tightening finger tight before tightening with ratchet.
6. Remove Rubber end-piece from Coil Pack and clean contacts with wet'n'dry.
7. Refit Rubber end piece and fit Coil pack, secure 12mm bolt.
8. Repeat for 2nd Plug on near-side.
9. For Off-side front plug work from above, using the same procedure as above.
10. For Off-side rear plug, remove air-intake/expansion box to allow access from the top and repeat as above.
The first time I attempted this it took about 1.5 Hours due to faffing about trying to get the right socket length.
However, it was repeated this weekend to re-gap the plugs from 1.0 - 0.7mm and only took 30-40mins.
Good Luck and I hope this info helps you out.
Cheers....
