Question

Hi all,

My Scooby is OK, but my other car isn't. I have a 1998 KIA Shuma (Mentor) and when I go for a long trip in it with the airco running the car starts to cut out, it's like it runs out of fuel. I accelerate and there is nothing and if I let go of the accelerator the revs drop and the engine stalls. I start it up and it's OK. I do another half a mile and then it does it again, sometimes I may do 5 miles more before it does it. It's inconsistent but it always does it after more than an hours driving. It does not seem to do it with the aircon off. The aircon is super cold and has not been regassed sinse new. The cambelt was changed recently, but I can't see it being the cause. Does anyone have a clue on this? Please!!!

Could be a fault in your aircon. Possibly not cutting out at 5 degrees evaporator temp as it should, or could be moisture in your system causing an ice formation. This is more usual when some gas has been lost as the evaporating pressure drops and the gas temp becomes super cold. I think you will be using R134a gas.

When was the last time the aircon was serviced? If more than two years id say it has lost some gas and thats the problem.

Greg

Cool

Hi Greg,

I think you've hit the nail on the head. It certainly makes sense, because it is super cold, quite a bit colder than my scooby aircon. The aircon has not been serviced at all. I just had a look and you're right gas used is R134a. I will get it serviced ASAP.

Thanks very much for the reply, You've certainly put my mind at rest now.
