Is the garage correct (Aircon)??
#1
Aircon appears not to work. The cars still under warrenty. Took it in today to be told that it had lost it's pressure. Could either be the pipes split, ceals gone which is no problem as it's under ths warrenty or a stone chip in the rad which will cost £400 +. What should I expect???. Has anyone had the same problem???

My 98MY had the same problem. I just got the gas topped up by a mate of mine and chilly service has been resumed.
Apparently after 2-3 years it is not unusual for the system to need refilling.
There is a reservoir(?) near the bulk head on the passengers side of the car. This has a glass peep hole in the top of it. If, when the air con is switched on, you can see bubbles, the system will need filling.
I spoke to the dealer first and they can't deal with the air con themselves and use an aircon specialist. This means you have to pay if it is damage like a stone through the rad.
There was a thread on this a few weeks back that maybe helpful to you.
Cheers,

Had the same problem on my MY96 WRX a few weeks ago. Just needed re-gassing. The company I used also did a pressure test to see if there were any leaks. Cost about £70 all in.

Apparenty the manual states that you should run the a/c for an hour a month to stop the seals from perising - never got that far with my manual - life is too short! since finding thids out i have done so mind you
sounds like it needs a recharge to me

I had exactly the same problem on my 98' Terzo, just a few weeks ago. I hadn't used the air con for months during the winter and when the weather started warming up I turned it on and nothing. Normally, when you turn the air con on you can hear a click as it cuts in or when you lightly touch the accelerator, however this had stopped.
It was just before a service so I mentioned it - the gas needed topping up. They said that after 2-3 years it is not uncommon for this to happen. Unfortunately this wasn't covered by the warranty and they charged me just over £30 as part of the service. Everything is fine now.
Good luck

Check out Adrian at Faygate Air Conditioning on 01293-410489 (Crawley)they are mobile as well and reasonably priced for a check-up. They do advertise "Free Diagnosis", say they were recommended by Dave at Pitstop!OK! Take a peep

And also dont tell the garage you havent used the aircon for months, as it says in the handbook to use it once a week for 5 minutes or so to stop the seals breaking down, they may get funny about warranty if its this !
