OK chaps - trying to achieve a few pops and bangs (sad isn't it ) as the title suggests. Car is UK MY00 running SS DP, Magnex centre (with resonator) and Magnex BB. Car also has an ITG panel filter and runs on SUL (and I'm also trying Harj's NF octane booster at the moment). I thought that I heard a few pops since using the octane booster, but they may have been my imagination .

So what else do I need to do? Dump valve (although I trying to avoid being too boy racer-ish ) or possibly SS mid section (i.e. centre pipe with no resonator)?

Cheers

Chris (the sad git )

Hi Chris,

I've still got the standard centre cat and I get pops and bangs, BUT it seems to be heat related for me. I've done a few long runs and backing of in gear normally makes it happen. Best way is after a long run, trundle to a stop and snick it into first at about 30mph. Trust me, you'll get some pops and bangs then.

Isn't it unburnt fuel going through the system causing the bangs. You can't be running too rich then.

On the other thread no probs, will be checking whats happening this week. My evenings have been somewhat erratic.

Try switching the ignition off then back on again on the overrun, you have dumped the cat. so you wont bugger that up! Talking of dumped, you already have a dump valve, if you want silly hissing sounds get one that exhausts to atmosphere. You could be REALLY sad and do the "spark plug in the exhaust pipe trick" (thread on the R.S.owners web site forum a while ago) but to do this you will have to change your name and address to :- Chris Sad of Sad blokes abode, Sadder than Sad Lane, Saddleworth, SA6 GIT.

Cool

I changed my exhaust, mid section (catless) and bacbox. As soon as I fitted a Blitz blow off valve the pops and bangs began

Thumbs up

Chris mate.

Russ P's got a HKS BOV (I think) and I heard it "chirping" all the way to Brighton on the last Clanger run!! Best bit was the reports of flames on upshifts and overrun..

Thats the way to do it

Incidently my full SM system gives the odd pop and bang on lift off - its very rare mind, and the only other mod is a 2nd hand K+N filter...

See you Sunday??

Nice one Fosters do you reckon it's the Prodrive ECU being a little more agressive with the fuelling?

Chris,

I agree with Fosters, when I drive my car hard, it pops and bangs. High speed/rev gear changes seem to increase the noise!

As you probably know, I have MY99 with SS backbox, SS downpipe and Magnex centre, along with a PPP ECU and HKS EVC 4! I have a Forge recirculating dump valve as well, but I don't think this is increasing the noise.

I chose the PPP ECU as it provides more/better fueling to the car, compared to the standard ECU. This was only important due to the use of the EVC on top of the ECU!

I'm about to try out the octane booster as well. So the pops and bangs should be louder!!!

Cheers

WRX+Scoobysport DP+Blitz Nur-Spec R System+Blitz DV=Yeah baby! With the rear baffle in, when she blows ( and blow hard she does ), it sounds like a gun when done right. With the baffle out, she justs goes boom. I drive without the baffle, but the other half still cannot get used to it! Can be hard work, but I just love how the engine talks to me! (I must get out more.....)
Freinds of the familyand neighbours etc love it and don't want me to put the baffle back in.

Didn't particularly want this side-effect, but has grown on me and can be quite fun, as a beemer found out one day.

Wittering now, so I must be off.......

Cheers,

Nick

Chris, is it just because your girlfriend has a louder system that yourself?

Dont get too upset, maybe driving a little HARDER might help the cause.

Becareful of anti-lag Graeme, it wears your turbo, brakes, exhaust manifol and back box 3 times quicker. I been through all these before.

I know about the increase of temps and the extra load on the turbo, manifold etc.. butI don't run it all the time just every so often and I'm keeping an eye them all...

do you have ALS on your car? has anything let go?
