I am dropping the engine in my car to fit new flywheel, clutch and hydraulic tappets and thought that while at it I would fit new rings, big end shells and give the whole engine a general freshen up (its done 120,000 KM of HARD miles) I have a mate who reconditions engines for a living but he has no listing of alternative shells/rings except standard Subaru ones.
Are there any alternatives out there?

Stuart,
Sounds pretty much like a full rebuild.....
The Subaru rings come in various sizes, and are used even when switching to Cossie pistons.
I've made several enquiries into baring shells, and the same seems to apply. I've also spoken to a few rally prep' co's, and also a Subaru rally driver (WRC, and GrpA cars) they also use standard barings.
Mark.
