Question

I've had a straight through Magnex exhaust mid and back box fitted for a few weeks without any probs, i have now fitted a Magnex decat downpipe and get overboost.
I've been told this is because the engine is running too hot, if i fit a k+n induction kit will this help?
Cheers

I'm sorry to say this...but it'll get worse with an induction kit.

It's the increased airflow that causes it, the ECU isn't prepared for the increased airflow, and fails to adjust the wastegate properly -> overboost.

Restrictors in the solenoid hosing can do wonders, get someone that knows what he's doing (Bob Rawle maybe?) to take a look at it.

Robby,

Had the same prob. with my 94WRX with a full ScoobySport - they're playing with restrictors as we speak.

I don't think it will get any worse with an induction kit.

The problem has been caused by your new downpipe allowing the turbo to spin up too easily. This suddenly sends spikes of boost to the various sensors.

J is right though, a restrictor will smooth off the spikes so that the sensor can read the steady state peak value and ignore the spikes. (or something..)

You should then get less turbo lag and maybe a bit more torque with the turbo working better.

Steve.
