If I get a SS downpipe and mid-section...?

1) Do I have to tell my insurance company that I will then have a catless straight through exhaust system?
2) Will they then not say that this is illegal as it is a potential MOT failure?
3) What kind of premium increases are usual when doing this modification?
Thanks

I've got a ss back box, told the insurance company, they charged a bit extra (£25ish I think), but the good bit was on the certificate that came, stating exhaust modification, so this Sat I'm getting a ss downpipe fitted that still comes under the exhaust mod I've already told them about..
Not sure about the MOT side of things though..

It's something I have thought about too.
I think that if you fit a catless D/P you are knowingly making it unable to pass an MOT or roadside emmisions test, therefore making it illegal to use on road. Even if the insurance company noted the mod on your policy there is a real chance that they would refuse a claim on this basis.
This is just my thoughts, and not actually based on facts, would someone care to clarify ??

According to the MOT regs a vehicle registered befor june or july (can't remember which month) 95 does not require a cat , the emmisions have to be less than 3.5% co on idle . Cars registered after the above date have a basic set of figures that would require a cat to pass .
What month was your car made ? as my STi 2 registration doc just says it was made in 1995 .
Hope this helps a bit Dave
(edited cos I carnt speill)

I told my insurance Co. about the HKS Exhaust system I currently have, they charged an extra £39:50, I asked about the fitting of a down pipe & they were happy as its part of the exhaust, but a manifold would be extra.
