Wastegate solenoid ?
#2
Hi, I've been having problems with this at the mo. Basically is a small gold cylinder, about 3 inches in length, with a clear end cap with two wires visible (black and red). It is located on the left hand side, mounted near to the strut brace/top suspension mount.
I was advised to take it off, and spray in carb cleaner. I have tried this, but the idle is still 1,200-1,500 revs and after switching off the ignition, the solenoid if making a loud tapping noise for a couple of seconds. Scoobysport fitted another second hand one, when I got it serviced, which was ok for a little while, but is now doing exactly the same thing. HEEELLLPPP!!!!

Hi Chris,
It's usually (I don't know if all models are the same) on the drivers side suspension turret in the engine bay. It's about 3 inches long and cylindrical and has 2 or else three pipes connected to it. Clean it with brake or carb cleaner.
If you do a search (click on search scoobynet at top of page) there's loads on this.
If you need any more info, mail me off line.

I've had more solenoid probs than you can shake a stick at!!
Have you tried connecting the two green plugs under the dash. This puts the car into some weird mode: the cooling fans go into a cycle and the solenoid goes ape.
1. turn off ignition
2. disconnect hoses to solenoid
3. spray in brake cleaner (doesn't leave a residue like carb cleaner)
4. connect green plugs
5. watch the solenoid magically clean itself
6. turn off ignition
7. disconnect plugs.
Magic.
If you still have a high idle, try checking all the small hoses for leaks. Make sure they seal at the ends properly.
(You can check this using your thumb at one end, and a footpump at the other!!)
Steve.

Should you be able to hear the solenoid working when on boost.
Some posts claim that their solenoids are noisey, others claim that they are working when you can hear them.
My old 93 WRX was noisey, but by MY94 Prodrive is quite. Both use the same style of Solenoid so which is working and which isn't.
P.S I tried 2 on my WRX and both were the same i.e ticked when on boost. So my guess is that they should be heard !!!!!!
