Hi there,
how does the downpipe to centre section join on an aftermarket exhaust, say for example an H&S downpipe bolting up to a standard centre as both sections have flat mounting flanges, i have been told that you joint them with a bit of exhaust paste and no gasket is this correct?? a buddy at work wants to change his downpipe and asked,
thanks in advance

The downpipe has what can best be descripted as a donut that sits on and small pipe of pipe that comes out of the H&S downpipe and goes into the centre section.. the flanges then bolt together and the donut (original Subaru) gasket seals it.. standard exhaust has springs on the bolts to allow some flex..
That is for a 2.5inch H&S downpipe.
I am sure they have one something sensible on the 3inch too.

Thanks for that, my HKS downpipe is flat and so is the centre section / system, if i were to fit another system to the HKS and didn't have the HKS gasket then i guess it would be a case of exhaust paste, i take it that only the HKS downpipe has a flat flange and other makes have the more "standard" donut.
