Anyone know of anyone who has removed the resonator (ie still using airbox and a panel filter) and suffered a MAF failure?

I've taken my resonator box off and have had no problems, i read about it in a WRX book which claimed it would give you about a 5 BHP gain, i have also since put on a cone filter, what is this problem your concerned about, cheers Dan.

Danamber18,

he problems I have heard of when removing the resonator is that it's all to easy for water to get into your induction kit (if say going through a big puddle to fast) and sucked into the engine, thus causing serious (AND EXPENSIVE) problems. I was going to remove my resonator until I was advised not to by the guys at Scoobysport.

I've been running without a resonator for 50'000k's over 2 cars through 2 Swiss winter's rain/snow and no problems.

Maybe a lot is down to the type of panel filter used - I run an ITG. Didn't the failed MAF one run a K&N and reckoned the water mixed with oil to coat the MAF?

The ITG uses *gunk* which any water getting through would not shift.

Cetainly there's extended risk by doing this - it's very important to make sure you refit the splash guards correctly.

This way the only water likely to get in is through the orange air vent...and it then has a long way to travel up before it gets sucked in....unless you've also fitted some ducting.... If the splash guards aren'r refitted correctly then water will be thrown off the wheels straight into the air intake

As you look at the engine its on your L/H/S if you take you're air box out you will see a round hole in the inner wing with a plastic tube in it. Take you're wheel off and remove the front part of the plastic inner arch, there you will find a black plastic box,if you remove it leave the plastic tube and maybe connect some flexi pipe to it and fix it to the front bumper air intake for direct cold air into you're filter. got that! god only knows if you understand it
