I guess your bailey is a dump to atmosphere , rather than recirculating, type.

If so then the ecu is providing too much fuel, 'cos it doesn't know the dumped air wasn't put back into the induction system. So yes, it's running rich. Why not de-cat too...then you can get flames out the back too...sure your girlfriend would love this!

Mind you - most likely cause is heavier right foot so's you get the ppsssttt when lifting

IMHO a dump-valve will not alter performance. It's function in life is to protect the turbo bearings from load when you shut the throttle. Indeed, a monster engine build would get rid of the dump valve altogether...

Surely if a dump valve can act quicker then the turbo can be prevented from stalling? I'm considering one after a friend with an EVO VI changed his - better low range pickup and better response after gear changes. It's an HKS sequential unit...

Sorry Nick

I completely fail to see how a dump valve can improve low range pick-up...unless the stock one was leaking

With the post gearchange response, maybe it actually closes earlier than the stock one so you're already building boost before getting on the throttle. Or as you say, the turbo's still spinning faster 'cos it opened quicker.

It would be interesting to know for sure!

I can't understand either, though it is sequential so I'm wondering if it's anything to do with it being able to "close" quicker???

Beats the hell out of me, but his car seems to live out the promise of better low rev pick-up...

Confused? i am!

Question

Had a Bailey D/V fitted a couple of weeks ago.

I love the sound, but unfortunately my girlfriend wasn't too impressed (to say the least). I sold the idea to her saying that it was a safety devise that enabled you to accelerate if you got into trouble !!! ("what for?" was her reply to that)

With regards to the perferomance - I can't tell a lot of difference at mid revs. However, take it above 5000rpm and any lag when you change gear has completely disappeared.

The only downside is that I reckon my fuel consumption has dropped slightly, even if I try driving sensibly - not something I was expecting or was told about before having it done.

Anyone got any ideas what may be happening?
Is it because it is now running rich?
What does this mean and why does it happen?
Will it cause any problems?
Does it mean I could run higher boost pressures?

So many questions - any answers.

Cheers

Simon

Hi Robby,

I had mine fitted by a local firm, as I'm not very technically minded. Whenever I try anything it always takes me far longer than it should and more often than not goes wrong. The Bailey valve looks simple enough to fit, but did involve cutting some pipes and using a fitting kit.

IMHO it is worth paying for an hours labour - at least if anything does go wrong you can blame someone else (& hopefully get something done about it !!!).
