Hey guys,

Just after boost pressures that you guys normally get. Mine maxes out at 11PSI, or 0.75 BAR. Normal or not?
Just want to make sure that i am not losing any power that should be there

Thanks,

Nick

Nick,

That sounds right to me. Believe it or not, my Japan spec '98 wagon, high compression engine has a factory boost of 0.75 kg/cm² but i am running it at 1.2 kg.cm²

Unhappy

Boooooooooo . I was hoping that it would be hideously low, so I would have a reason to clean the assembly etc out. Cheers. Any others.....?

Cheers,

Nick

I believe a Minus figure at any time other then ON BOOST is normal. I can crusie at 90mph and still be showing a minis figure. Only when the engine need to do a bit of work will you get a positive boost reading.

Get a Unichip and Boost controller and magnex system. 1.15 bar all the way up to 7000 rpm.

Jon, I know, I know........ You still chuffed with your upgrades???

Was considering the same bits as you, but the new Box and Clutch have gone a bit pear shaped. SS have sourced a 98 UK box and Rear Diff for me that are being fitted Tuesday. Wallet taking a mild beating currently. I got a SS downpipe fitted when I last got her back (Luuuuuuuuuuurvly noises etc) and am still waiting for my Blitz system to arrive at the docks....... Only ordered a month ago

Still haven't found the head unit extraction key for you...... But rest assured that the moment I do ....

Cheers,

Nick

Seems that I can't type properly in this message either...... doh.

Read the thread about your gear box.. Didn't comment as I know squat about them. Sounds Like SS owe you a big favour for screwing up like that. I am chuffed, your right, Just jealous of your SS downpipe. Might have to persuade the wife and save my pennies too.

If your ever in B'stoke, let me know.

If it ever came across as Scoobysport getting something wrong, then my apologies. Never intended anything like that. Basically, despite the car passing a RAC inspection ( must be a good inspection then ), it appears that the car had an old UK box stuck on when she got to the dealers from the docks. Gear ratio was fine for me, but after the transmission warming up, everything was seizing up, due to the rear diff not matching the gearbox. Scoobysport put in the correct box for my rear diff, it just happens that the rear diff is a buzzbox one, so the gearbox is matched accordingly . Anyway, SS are putting a much newer set in on tuesday, as the Rear diff seems to have been b@ggered from the previous box. She now gives the 'handbrake' effect on turning from cold....... As for the clutch, it is great. Just have the slighest hint of vibration when starting to depress the clutch. SS are sorting that out on Tuesday as well. Great guys!

SS downpipes really do rule.

Cheers,

Nick

Man! How dicksleksick can I be with the smilies today?

May be it was just me that got the wrong end of the stick. Glad that it was not SS as they do have an excellent rep. Does that mean you are now going to have to live with those shorter ratios? If so would'nt want to meet you at the lights.

Have you noticed we have digressed from the orrigional subject. :}

Hope you car returns to full health soon.

Wink

Yes, the car is very good off the lights, but I have not really tried it properly, as I was uncomfortable with the box anyway. Clutch is the main improvement. UK box has taller ratios, which is good for me. Anyway, tangents are good, hmmmkay?

I was under the impression that the WRX ran around 1 bar of boost.Your 0.75 bar is definately too low (see sidc faq).I have a 97my uk car and the boost that I get in the gears are below for a standard car so I think yours should be at least somewhere around these being a more powerful car.
1st-0.8 bar
2nd-0.9 bar
3rd-0.9 bar
4th-0.9/0.95 bar
5th-1.0 bar

p.s. try cleaning the waste gate solenoid.

just had my '94 wrx upgraded with K&N air filter and fitted a de-catted, big bore exhaust; the garage chappie said the turbo was running normally at 0.8 boost.

can't comment if that's a good or a bad thing. (must find out more about all this ternimology)

regards

Is this correct, are the gearboxes not interchangable.ie UK-WRX-Sti
I'd been thinking about swapping my box, but may have to change my plans & have mine checked & the sychromesh replaced.

That's correct, going by what I have experienced. The rear diff has to match the gearbox used, be it UK, WRX or STI.
Might be talking pants though...
