Question

Hi all
Just a quickie I have a my00 with downpipe and backbox (scoobysport), I can hear a small tappy type sound when accelerating hard using regular unleaded, could it be pinking?
Please help, I don't want a non-warrantied bill.
Ron

I would not think so Ron. You still have std ECU don't you Ron?
You get these sounds with the downpipe. I thought the same when I first fitted mine.

Ron my 95 is std apart from the exhaust but it still pings (pink) on poor fuel under hard acceleration so yes be carefull.
to fix this i use a small amount of Nitrous Formula octane boost.

Try running it down to empty, fill it up with SUL and then try the same acceleration.

If there is no tappy sound - then it is pinking. Alternatives are to try det cans or borrow a knocklink and try that.

IMHO even with the standard ECU it is possible that it is knocking.

Hi Nitro, Do you actually hear the pinging or do you have a knock sensor such as Knocklink?

Cool

Thanks for that guy's
I had a word with Pete Croney yesterday, and he explained the sound is actually the waistgate chattering against the back of the turbo and not detting, you can't hear it on a standard car but it does still happen.
Was I pleased? I should co-co.
Many thanks
Ron
