Use of Synthetic Silkolene engine oils...
Hi,
After reading a very long thread on the selection of engine oils suitable for Impreza Turbos,..a point was raised as to the suitability of Silkolene Pro s. The point that was raised was that Pro s uses polyoleaster as a base oil and that this may cause problems when Pro s is used in an engine previously filled with a non polyoleaster oil...which many others such as Mobil 1 are...
Does anyone out there have experience of Silkolene Pro s as I've just bought some for dealer to use at next change...I know that you should wait for engine to bed in before it's wise to use fully synth..and so car has done 20k...up until now dealer has used semi synth Mobil...
Any ideas folks!

I e mailed the tech dept at Silkolene with the same question about a month ago and they said there was no problem putting a polyolesther (sp?) oil in after a normal synthetic. Redline and Motul said exactly the same thing.
The guy at Silkolene recommended Pro S 10w 50 if the car was mainly used on the road.
I've had it in my car for about 3 weeks and haven't had a problem.
Hope this helps.
