Quite simple really, I'm a cheapskate and theres nothing wrong with the downpipe apart from the cat. Has anyone done this. Can it be done? Please help as can't afford 200squid for a part that isn't broke.
Thanks, Olly.

I've done this, I was also modifying the downpipe mouth to full width, so i cut the whole mouth side pipe off at the top of the cats can with a hand saw. Then taking a length of steel rod, pounded it thru the cat material, once getting a few holes punched through the middle, it begins to collapse on itself easier, flip the pipe up and let the bits all fall out, including a wire mesh around it holding it in place.
Then i had the mouth/neck pipe which i had modified separately, welded back on.

Re: cost saving over de-cat downpipe. Doesn't it get a bit expensive at MOT time?

Yep, can be done no problems what so ever. If emissions are still important I'd recommend cutting out the centre cat and replacing it with a hi-flow sports item.

I've also seen this done, its not so critical as the DIY up-pipe de-cat as no left over pieces are going to damage any Turbo parts.

Just dont stand behind the car when running after you refit it,LOL.

Go to scoobymods.com for a detailled explanation and pictures of how to do this.
