Exhaust too loud
#1
Got pulled over this morning for having an echaust that is too loud (Blitz Nur Spec R on MY99 STi V Type R). Given a producer and vehicle defect thingy. What will a garage do to check exhaust and will it pass with/without the bung in?

I've only heard bits and pieces about this. Apparently there is a decibel limit when your car is doing 4000 revs. The garage will test this.
Definately put the bung in and hope for the best. I also have the NUR Spec and always watch out for the rozzers when booting in with the bung out.

I used to get pulled when I had a Blitz Nur Spec R and 3" HKS DP and was constantly on the look out for the rozzas when driving!
Defo make sure the bung is in and that the test is done in an open area.... Look at this Link, tells you about the test ect and how to make the car quieter!

Havent had it tested, but others have reported 110-118dB running a nur Spec with downpipe! So it is probably WAY over. I did plug the bung in last night, and it has probably halved the noise

I have a HKS Hiper,
And it has recently been noise tested.
On a 45degree angle 1meter away at 4500rpm it was 99db
And on a driveby on a track at wot around 6000rpm it was 94,3db
Skassa

Sell it and get a new one. The power gain is so minimal anyway (even on your JDM car, I suppose) that it is not worth the noise and becoming a maniac having to watch out for police cars that are in the area & being afraid to floor it.
I know because I had a Nur Spec R too. T'was fun at first, but after some momths it was a pain. Me, too, I've been pulled over by the police and they told me to see the TUV station to check if the noise levels are ok.
Later I sold it and bought the STI Sports muffler, looks as good as the Blitz, has a large tailpipe (larger than the Blitz) and is slightly louder than the std backbox.

Trouble is, I like the sound LOTS!
1st time I have been pulled in over 1.5 years. I have spoken to a copper that I know, and he said she must have been a hitler!
Nevermind, bung is in now (until it has been tested).
Wouldnt mind if she knew what she was talking about. (i.e. saying my exhaust must have a british kite mark stamp on it - AFAIK this is only for bikes, and if a car was made in japan, it is hardly likely to have any british kitemarks is it????)
Still reckon I should have revved it up to show her what loud was!

they are supposedly louder (i think that money has done a test and the blitz is around 8dB louder).
Is the exhaust only JASMA approved with the bung in though? (as I know they are quite strict on noise regs in Japan)
